Can a Civil Judge give decision in criminal case?

A civil judge hears civil matters and criminal matters are referred to a magistrate under Criminal Procedure Code. Note that a judge is a judge and is hearing the matters as per the matters listed before them.

A judge hearing a civil case is known as 'Civil Judge' and when hearing a criminal case is known as 'Magistrate'. In India the judges are rotated to avoid any ambiguity in judgements.
